WEEK 5
EXPANDED PROJECTIONS
This week was all about projection in mapping and figuring out how to project an image or multiple images on to inanimate objects. It ended up being a far more technical and precise technique than I had previously imagined. On the outside, fairly straightforward. You scan or trace the face of an object with Adobe Photoshop, or anything similar, and then import it into Adobe After Effects, or any other similar program. Once it is in Adobe After Effects, you can simply retrace the shape with the pen tool on a separate layer. This sets the shape as the boundary for the project, within which you plop in an animation.
Okay, things clearly get a lot more intricate and complicated when you have to apply this method to map out the side of a church or any other large building, but essentially, it just means more than 30mins has to be invested into the physical mapping aspect.
Actually designing an animation is something I know very little about, something I cannot do with my current laptop as I am very aware of its capabilities, but something I would like to learn. I need to book out an animation suite and get hands-on in the creation of purely computer-generated imagery. Hopefully, I can update this blog with some more examples soon.
I tried making an animation by placing and distorting sound waves into a door frame.
